Conversations Workshop

“There are five things that could happen when I listen and respond to what you say. Four of them aren’t helpful; they can damage trust and ultimately the relationship.”

We spend about 75% of our time in conversations. How we talk, listen and respond in those conversations is the foundation for the relationships we build.

Conversations are simple but they’re not easy. We struggle with such questions as:

  • How do I build trust?
  • How do I get people to understand me?
  • How do I deal with difficult people?
  • How do I give bad news to someone?
  • How do I repair a damaged relationship?

Over time, we all fall into patterns. Without realising it, we have the same conversations over and over. If we want to build relationships, we need to change those old conversations.

In the Conversations Workshop, we’ll discuss and practice such areas as…

  • 3 Ways information is transmitted in conversations
  • 4 Elements of trust
  • 5 Barriers to communication
  • 3 Active listening skills to insure understanding
  • 6 Signals of doubt, concern, and resistance
  • 2 Skills to deal with doubt, concern, and resistance
  • 4 Elements of a feedback statement that encourages action

Topics will include:

  • Key Concepts of effective communications
  • What happens during a conversation
  • Creating trust to build relationships
  • Barriers to great conversations
  • Recognising and dealing with concerns and doubt
  • Giving effective feedback
  • Acknowledging contributions and strengths

As trainers we believe the most effective learning takes place when the participants are given opportunity to practice what they are learning. Studies have shown that simple lecture provides the least percentage of retention of material. PowerPoint and other visual aids increase the learning, but actually doing what you are learning provides the highest percentage of learning. As the old Chinese proverb says:  I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand
